Project Update: Engineering Internships at Saet Emmedi

Do you remember the project we launched a few months ago involving a group of recent engineering graduates in a company internship program? These internships are coming to an end, and we are now evaluating the results.

Looking ahead and refusing to be paralyzed by the global pandemic has paid off. Today, we are proud to have strongly believed in our own potential and in that of the engineers we selected back then.

In March, they all completed their internships: some finished where they started, while others moved to different departments where we identified opportunities of greater interest both for the company and for the “rising stars” we had scouted. Let’s look at the numbers:

  • 6 young engineers started the journey, working for 6 months alongside senior mentors in various departments: from the Metallurgical Laboratory to Design, from PLC Programming to Project Management, and from Application Engineering to Production;
  • 5 of them completed the internship with tenacity and passion;
  • 1 person seized an interesting market opportunity and, after a few months, moved into a sales role at another company;
  • Over 250 hours of training were provided, covering all company processes and skills.

Beyond the numbers, the real achievement has been the #enthusiasm and #passion with which these young professionals approached our product and our company from day one. They felt immediately challenged and stimulated, yet supported and welcomed. I believe this extraordinary success is largely due to our colleagues’ wonderful ability to embrace these recruits, guiding them with dedication and a genuine desire to share their know-how.

This is by no means a given: it is often easier for a senior figure—especially in uncertain times—to keep knowledge to themselves or relegate young newcomers to low-value tasks. Here, as always, the opposite happened: naturally and spontaneously, our seniors encouraged the younger team members to apply their university knowledge to build new tools and quickly acquire the skills needed to become effective. In turn, the interns dived into every project with grit and joy, showing humility and a great desire to grow within a constantly evolving technological world.

It has been an intense six months. Week after week, we received increasingly positive feedback from across the company regarding the team and the value they were already adding. Six months of #collaboration with managers and colleagues who taught them the ropes and saw them in action every day.

There was Chiara, who was never afraid to get her hands dirty in the lab to analyze parts; Daniele, who was eager to take on more complexity and manage clients independently (and succeeded!); Ibra, who worked on software, testing, and R&D; Alberto, who, with his natural aplomb and flexibility, moved from designing small components to complex mechanical units and inductors; and finally Marianna, who covered everything from production (she loves being “on the front lines”) to project management without ever losing heart.

I loved these young professionals and their sharp minds from the very first interview: I could feel a fertile #energy in them, and the bright, open approach they showed was exactly what I had been looking for. But the greatest satisfaction for an HR Manager was two-fold: seeing a genuine love for #SAETEMMEDI, its technology, and its people blossom within them, and hearing from so many colleagues that we had made the right choice with this project.

As promised, being specialists in customization and prototypes, we tailored this project to our needs: with transparency, honesty, and a challenging yet achievable goal.

Starting in April, all five engineers will be hired under a Higher Education and Research Apprenticeship contract. While working full-time with us, they will also attend a Post-Graduate Master’s in Industrial Operations. This is our way of creating a sustainable future for our company: investing in youth and fostering the integration of senior experience with the fresh skills of new graduates.

We have already begun #recruiting for the next round of graduates for a new project. Like the previous one, it will alternate theoretical training on our products and processes with practical internships in various departments. We are looking for talents in Application Engineering, After-Market, Automation, Testing & Commissioning, and Project Management who want to work in a high-tech, international environment.

We know this will be another exciting experience, and we are ready to receive your CVs via email. Please write to: HR@saetemmedi.com to apply for the new Young Engineers Project selections.
